About engineering paper

Engineering paper layers two grids: a bold major square for structure and a fine subdivision inside it for detail. That lets you plot to a coarse scale and still read small increments without switching sheets. The traditional pale green tint keeps pencil work visible over the printed grid.

Choosing a size

Five subdivisions per major square is the classic ratio. Pair 5 mm majors with 1 mm subdivisions, or use 10 mm majors with 2 mm subdivisions for larger plots.

Common uses

Lab work, field notes, structural sketches, measured drawings.

Frequently asked questions

Why is engineering paper green?
The pale green tint is light enough that pencil and ink stay readable while the grid remains visible, and it is easier on the eyes than black rules under bright light.
How many subdivisions does each square have?
Five, giving 1 mm increments inside a 5 mm major square. Change the spacing value to alter the major square; subdivisions scale with it.
